Industrial Info is tracking more than $2.8 billion in hydropower projects under construction in the U.S.
While grassroot hydropower projects under construction in the U.S. are few and far between, there is one occurring in Livingston, Texas, in the eastern part of the state. East Texas Electric Cooperative Incorporated (Nacogdoches, Texas) is constructing a 24-megawatt (MW) powerhouse at an existing dam. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Many of the hydropower projects in the U.S. are modernizations and upgrades at existing facilities. Among the highest-valued of these is at a facility in Washington state. Grant County Public Utility District (Ephrata, Washington) is wrapping up a generator upgrade at its Wanapum Hydropower Station near Beverly. The project involves upgrading 10 104-MW generators to 122 MW each and extending their service life. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Also in Washington, the Douglas County Public Utility District (East Wenatchee, Washington) is refurbishing 10 units at the Wells Hydropower Station near Pateros. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Pumped storage hydropower projects involve pumping water uphill in times of lower power usage and releasing it through turbine-generators in times of high power consumption. Industrial Info is tracking billions of dollars of planned pumped-storage hydropower projects that may or may not make it off the ground. In New York, the New York Power Authority (White Plains, New York) is modernizing an existing pumped-storage facility near Lewiston. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
While Iowa is increasingly known for its wind-power generation, at the Red Rock Lake and Dam near Knoxville, Missouri River Energy Services (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) is underway with a 36.4-MW powerhouse addition. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
These are a few of more than $215 billion in hydropower projects that Industrial Info is tracking throughout currently under construction throughout the world. Join us at HydroVision International next week to learn more!
