BP plc and Shell Offshore Incorporated are drilling seven and six new wells, respectively, in the Gulf of Mexico. Most of BP's new wells are its Mad Dog Platform. Shell's new wells are mostly at the Olympus and Perdido Spar platforms. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) lists 45 new wells as currently being drilled.

Behind BP and Shell, Chevron USA and Murphy Exploration each have five new wells. Arena Offshore has four; Talos ERT LLC has three; Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Enven Energy Ventures LLC, Hess Corporation, and Walter Oil & Gas Corporation each have two; and Castex Offshore Incorporated, Cox Operating LLC, Exxon Mobil Corporation, Fieldwood Energy LLC, GulfSlope Energy Incorporated, LLOG Exploration Offshore LLC and W & T Energy VI LLC each have one new well.
