California's Biotech Industry Plans $5.3 Billion in Projects
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--California has one of the largest biotechnology clusters in the world. According to a report from the California Life Sciences Association (CLSA), this sector employed roughly 324,000 people and generated $6.4 billion in direct state and local taxes in 2020, with 1,350 new medicines in clinical trials, including COVID-19 therapies and vaccines.
California is the second largest U.S. state for active biotechnology projects after Massachusetts. Companies such as Alexandria Real Estate Equities Incorporated, Healthpeak Properties Incorporated and Kirby Realty Corporation provide much of the construction activity in the sector.
